Hi Bill
This spectrum is amazing. I have seen the meteor spectrum of iron in the short wavelength region in the first time. And the resolution is also excellent.

Hi,
I have been working on my Python script for processing meteor spectra. I added a user interface, which allows more flexibility in the processing than the original pipeline. The script is described here:
https://meteorspectroscopy.org/
Look for the last post, Meteor spectra analysis, new version, the direct link does not seem to work. If you are interested, please send me a note.
I also processed my spectra of 2019 with the new script and attached the list here. I abridged it somewhat to fit the size for attachments. A complete version is available here:

Clear skies,
Martin

Hi, Martin
Thank you for showing the new spectrum catalog.
I downloaded the PDF file.
It is wonderful that your new version of spectrum analysis program has been worked well.
How work the program handle images that appear to be saturated?
Thank you,
Koji MAEDA

This problem has been occurring from time to time since the upgrade of the server.
I don't know the cause yet, but I believe it's due to the server mistakenly blocking transfers containing certain strings from a security standpoint.
Please let me know if you can identify the string that causes it.

I tried to figure out what is causing the problem, but sending the part I was cutting out seems not to make a problem . Very strange. In addition, it did not contain anything special, just plain text:
Quote: | What you can do is select the spectra manually for the addition and then process these further. What you can also do, is to process the video files with the program m_pipe7 to eliminate images with saturated pixels, applying tilt and slant corrections and adding the rows. Then use the new program for post processing (calibrating, plotting) the spectra. |

Thank you for testing. I will continue the searching of the reason.
This web site opened on 7/Aug/2004. The server environments have changed dramatically in this 15 years. It became too complex to understand.

Hi,
I've been trying to post a results but also have been experiencing the "forbidden" error.
I will try again.
Here is a nice Perseid spectrum from earlier today.
It spans ~360 to 900 nm and is well dispersed.
Best regards,
Bill.

So sorry. It seems version up of server system causes this troubles, but I could not find the reason yet.

Hi,
That looks great!
I caught another extraordinary spectrum last night. From observations by members of the NEMETODE group it looks like a -3.2 Alpha Capricornid.
This is the highest resolution spectrum I have ever captured and probably the highest ever for a meteor from the UK let alone an Alpha Cap anywhere.
The Mg triplet is fully resolved and the Na doublet is split also!
This was a section of the third order and shows the group of Fe/Cr and Ca lines in the blue/green well.
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi Bill,
Thank you for your high-resolution spectrum.
Many explosion fireballs belong CAP were seen here this year.
In a monochrome video, the first time I saw a Na line separated spectrum.
See also the spectrum of my new a7s camera 4K + 50mm lens with 600 grooves grating.
It is a sporadic meteor taken the day before yesterday.
The mirror image was shown to match your spectral direction.
Best regards,
Koji

Hi,
That is a great result in colour. I prefer the monochrome because of the extended sensitivity into the near UV and IR.
I modified a Canon 350 when they came out with a broadband filter but it was not sensitive enough. Have you modified your Sony?
I think we can produce results better than the professionals now!
The weather is not looking so good for the next few nights but I hope I can still get some good high res Perseids
Cheers,
Bill

Hi,
What you say is correct. A monochrome camera has a wider wavelength range, and monochrome data analyzing is easier than colour one after observation. However, in terms of an absolute sensitivity, I do not know a consumer camera that is more sensitive than this one.
So, I have no choice but to use this camera.
The IR cut filter of my SONY camera remains. I can not remove myself.
If I remove the filter, we can observe up to about 800 nm. I also want to get a camera without an IR cut filter.
Since a Forbidden 403 error has occurred, the contents try to upload divided.

The purpose of my recent spectral observations is to capture a possible darker spectrum of meteors. Even the same shower meteor may have different spectra depending on the brightness (mass).
That's why I started taking spectra from this July using a slightly longer focal length lens (50-85mm). High resolution is a byproduct of it, not its primary purpose. However, I like the high-resolution spectra because they are very beautiful!
clear sky,
Koji
